Economic Resilience
Fred’s 30-year experience as an entrepreneur taught him that economic sustainability is created locally. Saanich is now putting real tools in place that will welcome and support businesses.
Expanding our economy brings community-supporting jobs and reduces tax burdens on residents. From food trucks to a distillery, med-tech, a film studio, food technology hub and more – Fred is passionate about and focused on bringing well-paying jobs to Saanich.
Saanich recently hired its first economic development manager and joined the Chamber of Commerce and the Capital Region Urban Development Institute. Saanich maintains its membership in the South Island Prosperity Partnership and Destination Victoria. The best practices data from these economic leadership groups now informs the work of council and staff.
“A stronger economy that reduces residential tax increases while bringing in new, well-paying jobs is a priority. Our initiatives have already made a difference.
I will continue to pursue:
- New opportunities for family doctors
- New opportunities for daycare
- Movie Studios at Camosun College
- A Medical Technology Innovation Hub
- Support for local farmers & food processing
- Improved sports and recreation facilities.”
